Why Start Bay Fractional Exists

The idea for Start Bay Fractional came from a tale of two charities.

The first had hired a high end consultant with expensive, impressive credentials and all the right buzzwords. But after months of meetings and frameworks, nothing meaningful had changed. The charity was left with a hefty bill and the same problems they'd started with.

The second charity had a brilliant team member with deep sector knowledge, practical experience, and genuine care for the mission. They were doing transformational work, but were modestly paid, overworked, and wondering if there might be better opportunities to use their skills elsewhere.

This contrast sparked a simple but powerful question: What if we could connect the right talent with the right charities, people who understand the sector, care about the mission, and can deliver real results?

Our Vision

Start Bay Fractional exists to connect value-aligned, sector experienced talent with charities that need practical, relational support. We believe the charity sector deserves consultants who understand its unique challenges and care deeply about its mission.

"We exist to bring talent and mission together quietly, professionally, and with heart."

About the Founder

Mark Preston spent over a decade in senior leadership at Compassion UK, a £50M+ international charity. After years of seeing the gap between exceptional talent and opportunity in the sector, he launched Start Bay Fractional to offer a better way: a human relational model that brings together skilled professionals and the charities who need them. Mark lives in South Devon and continues to work with purpose led organisations across the UK.
